Update 3 - 1100hrs: Iceland volcanic eruption
Friday 16th, April, 2010… Due to the closure of Schiphol International Airport Amsterdam and Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris, Kenya Airways regrets to inform its passengers, customers, the travel trade and the public that the airline has now cancelled its flights KQ 116/16APR and KQ 114/115 16APR to Amsterdam and Paris respectively.
KQ 116/16APR was to depart Nairobi at 0810hrs subsequently delayed till 1045hrs and KQ 114/115 16APR at 0955 hours. KQ 102/16APR remains uncertain to operate unless advised otherwise by the London authorities.
These cancellations have a total of 1,155 passengers affected.
The Airline has now cancelled a total of five flights to Europe since yesterday due to the clouds of volcanic ash affecting the European airspace leading to closure of airports across Europe on safety grounds.
The National Air Traffic Service in London have further advised that English airspace remains closed, and that all flights to and from Heathrow are suspended until 0100hrs/17APR at the earliest.
The airline’s staff in London, Paris and Amsterdam are making all possible efforts to contact all our booked customers with this information in order to minimize the inconvenience caused by this unavoidable occurrence.
